Energy and Industry: Hydropower, Wind Power and the role of energy in Industrial Development

Hydropower and wind power are important renewable energy sources that support industrial development. Hydropower uses the movement of water to generate electricity, while wind power converts energy from the wind into power through turbines. In many European countries, these energy sources provide stable and low-carbon electricity that industries rely on for manufacturing, transportation, and technology production. Access to reliable energy has historically been a key factor in economic growth and industrial expansion.

However, energy production can also create challenges for nature and local communities. Hydropower dams may change river ecosystems and affect fish migration, while large wind farms can alter landscapes and impact wildlife such as birds. Because of this, governments and industries must balance the need for energy with environmental protection. Careful planning and new technologies can help reduce these impacts while still supporting sustainable industrial development.

Welcome to Erasmus+ Høyanger Meeting 2026!

Natural Resources and the Green Transition Energy, minerals and sustainable development in a European perspective Welcome to Høyanger! A central aim of the Erasmus+ collaboration is to explore shared challenges and opportunities in Europe. During this visit, students will examine how natural resources are used and managed in the transition towards a more sustainable society. The programme focuses on three key themes: energy production, mineral resources and circular economy. Through visits, presentations and case work, students will explore both the opportunities and the dilemmas connected to resource use, industrial development and environmental sustainability. The final day will bring these themes together through discussions and case work, encouraging students to reflect on how societies can balance economic development, environmental protection and future needs. We are delighted to welcome you to Høyanger, Norway, for this inspiring Erasmus+ international meeting, taking place...

Group Work and Responsibilities

International Student Workshop: Energy & Sustainability Group 1: Renewable Energy vs. Nature Protection Yasmin, Chiara, Sofia, Nahoum Questions:   Why does Europe need more renewable energy?   What environmental impacts come from wind farms, hydropower, solar?   Why do some communities resist renewable projects?   How can conflicts between nature and energy be solved?   Example   cases :   wind   power  in Norway,  hydropower   expansion  ,  offshore  wind  in Europe   Group 2: Mining for the Green Transition Thomas, Alexander, Laetizia, Abi Questions:   Why do green technologies need minerals?   What minerals are important?   (lithium, copper, rare earth elements, nickel)   Should Europe mine more resources locally?   What are the environmental consequences of mining?   Example   cases :   lithium   mining  , rare  earth  minerals,  copper...

Preparation for Your Erasmus+ Meeting in Høyanger, Norway

We are excited to welcome you to Høyanger, Norway, for our Erasmus+ international meeting from March 16th to March 20th ! To ensure that you get the most out of this experience, we ask you to come prepared by researching important topics related to change and conflict in energy —the key theme of our project: " Europe’s Resource Dilemma: Energy, Minerals and the Green Transition " Before your arrival, we ask you to  explore the following questions about your home region and country: Energy and Industry: Different types, What is popular or used in your region Minerals and the Green Transition: New technology requires minerals to supply its own demands for production and more. what does this mean for your generation and those to come? Circular Economy and Future Solutions: What does it mean to be sustainable in an ever changing market in developing industries? Why This Matters Your insights will shape our discussions and activities throughout the week. By understanding...
